ORLANDO CITY LAKE NONA FAQ
FAQ
How can I join the club?
For our recreational program, all you need to do is register for one of the recreational programs depending on your son/daughters age. If interested in our competitive program, your child would need to be evaluated by the coach of that respective age group to determine which level is right for him/her and in order to do so outside tryout time, contact erik@oclakenona.com to set up a trial if you are not registered with another club currently.
I have a friend who is interested in joining the club, how can he/she get involved?
Have your friend’s parents contact erik@oclakenona.com to set up a trial for their son/daughter, if they are not registered with another club currently.
What is the practice schedule?
The final practice schedule is set by the coach. Most of our teams train 3 days per week.
Do you have goalkeeper training?
Yes, we have multiple goalkeeper training days per week. The schedule is set by skill level.
What programs do you offer?
We offer two main programs:
Recreational beginning at 18 Months to 14 years old.
Competitive beginning at 8 years old to 19 years old.
What’s the difference between recreational and competitive?
Recreational teams do not travel outside of our local area, practice 1 or 2 times per week and may sometimes participate in tournaments. Our competitive program is more travel and more of a commitment and depending on the level of the competitive team, could mean more events and expenses. Our professional staff has years of evaluating players and each one will be placed on the proper team for their level so the can develop and grow in the game.
What is the differentiation between Pre, Junior, and Senior academies?
Pre Academy
The main focus of the Pre-Academy is the individual; developing the player to be technically sound and introducing awareness of space on the field.
Junior Academy
Our Junior Academy is focused on building relationships on the lines and teaching the players how to compete. Tactically, focusing on play going forward through channels and in-between lines, defensively introducing organization of lines, pressure, cover, balance, and lines of confrontation.
Senior Academy
The Senior Academy‘s main focus is the entire team as a whole, both offensively and defensively working as a unit. Attacking using our flank players and creating overloads, and defensively recovering quickly in transition getting compact and staying compact.
What are the different levels?
For the Pre Academy teams - Purple is our top team, White is our second team and Gold is our 3rd team.
For the Junior and Senior Academy teams - Our top team is named for the league they participate in (ex. DPL for girls, EAL for boys), Purple is our second team and White is our 3rd team and Gold is our 4th team.
Where are the practices held?
We have two locations, once the number of teams are finalized, we will try our very best to have a set schedule for training that is communicated well in advance.

Why are some clubs advertising tryouts before May 1st?
There are multiple governing bodies in the soccer communities and they each have different rules.
While we have some teams who do not need to wait until May 1, we've made a conscious decision to be fair and keep things simple for our members and potential new members and start May 1.
Can I be evaluated before May 1st?
Yes, if you are NOT currently registered to an FYSA club. (contact us erik@oclakenona.com)
No, if you are with a club currently, you must wait until at least May 1st.
A full schedule of tryouts here
What are the registration deadlines?
The actual FYSA registration date is June 10th. This is the first day that clubs can start to put players and coaches onto a roster.
While many clubs give you other dates, you aren't obligated for the full year until June 10.
What if I register at tryouts?
Many players sign registration paperwork and even pay a deposit at tryouts. While you could lose your deposit, you can move to a different club before June 10 without further penalty.
Can I change my mind?
Yes, you can change your mind and commit to a different club, even if you paid a deposit at another. You need to notify the first club - in writing - before June 10. The first club can not hold you to more payments, put you on a roster or keep your player pass.
What if I change my mind after June 10?
You are obligated to the club starting June 10. To leave after this date, you would have to ask for an official release. Some clubs will force you to pay for the full year, they are within their right to do so. Read the registration fine print, every club is different!
;-) Here at OC Lake Nona, we will never hold player passes or force you to pay beyond the different points we've outline in our program details. If you want to leave, you can do so at any point of the year. We are confident in our program, our coaching staff, and the experience that we provide!
Why do clubs require deposits?
There are a lot of expenses for a soccer club, many of them upfront in early summer. There is also a mentality of "locking players in". If you pay a deposit, clubs feel like you would have a harder time leaving. This is the case for a lot of families, losing that deposit can be painful. DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Would a club really give away your spot if you didn't pay a deposit? Is that the kind of club you want to be affiliated with?
